Canadian government sends notice to Nunchun to freeze bitcoin wallets and gets owned instead

Nunchun, a self-custodial and multi-sig bitcoin wallet received an email from Ontario’s Superior Court of Justice to freeze users’ assets and prevent them from being moved. Canadian government wants its citizens to stop moving their funds to bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. The government has already frozen bank accounts of those who are going against them.

In an email, Nunchun team explained them their software is free to use and is self-custodial, which allows people to eliminate single points of failure and store bitcoin in safest way possible, while preserving privacy.

Nunchun team added that they have no control over users’ assets and do not collect any user identification information beyond their email addresses. They do not have access to private keys so they cannot freeze users’ assets or prevent them from being moved.

Yesterday, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice sent us a Mareva Injunction, ordering us to freeze and disclose information about the assets involved in the #FreedomConvoy2022 movement.

Then, they took a pin at depreciating Canadian dollar and said Nunchun team will be there to serve them as well. They suggested Canadian government to learn how self-custody and private keys work.
