Bitcoin Cash support on Coinbase coming next year
Coinbase has announced that they will be adding support for Bitcoin Cash next year. At the time of hard fork, Coinbase initially said no to the bitcoin cash since they thought that would not be safely supported on the day it was launched and that is why they released a statement where it asked users to withdraw their bitcoin from coinbase and add it to the exchange where they would get the free bitcoin cash. Now, Coinbase has sent emails to its customers telling them they have examined the relevant issues and have decided to work on adding support for bitcoin cash for Coinbase users.
The company says that they have made this decision by keeping myriad factors like network security, customer demand, trading volumes and regulatory considerations.
Coinbase will be adding support for bitcoin cash starting January 1st 2018. After that, coinbase users will be able to withdraw their bitcoin cash. It is interesting to note that the word “trading” is no where mentioned in the email which means that BTC <> BCC/BCH trading would not be made available.
Coinbase received a lot of heat when it did not made the bitcoin cash available during fork and instead notified its customers to withdraw their bitcoin from their exchange if they wanted the free bitcoin cash. It is nice to see them listening to their customers. After all, who does not like ‘free’ stuff?
